Levels of Expertise and Certification

LCR – Licensed Court Reporter. Required by the State of New Hampshire (RSA 310-A 161-181). The reporter has successfully passed a written knowledge and a three-part skills examination administered by the National Court Reporters Association (Literary matter at 180 wpm, Jury Charge at 200 wpm & Testimony at 225 wpm). The reporter must participate in continuing education to maintain licensure (10 hours per year). For more information contact: www.nhcra.com RPR– Registered Professional Reporter. Issued by National Court Reporters Association. The reporter has a proven command of English grammar and spelling, technology, medical and legal terminology and the ability to write and transcribe varying types of material at high speeds. The reporter has passed a nationally administered Written Knowledge Test and three-part dictation examination (Literary matter at 180 wpm, Jury Charge at 200 wpm & Testimony at 225 wpm). The reporter must participate in continuing education to maintain certification (30 hours over three years). For more information contact: www.NCRAonline.org RMR – Registered Merit Reporter. Issued by National Court Reporters Association. Tests reporters at higher levels of knowledge (merit-level Written Knowledge Test) and speed (Literary matter at 200 wpm, Jury Charge at 240 wpm & Testimony at 260 wpm). The reporter must participate in continuing education to maintain certification, 30 hours over three years. For more information contact: www.NCRAonline.org CRR – Certified Realtime Reporter. Issued by National Court Reporters Association. The reporter has passed a nationally administered exam testing their ability to write realtime at variable speeds with a minimum accuracy rate of 96%. For more information contact: www.NCRAonline.org RDR – Registered Diplomate Reporter. Issued by National Court Reporters Association. This represents the highest level of certification a reporter can achieve. The reporter must be an RMR for at least five years and pass a nationally administered exam that tests all reporting activities. All RDRs are required to participate in continuing education.
